Bills Fall

The Buffalo Bills suffered a stunning 29–26 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday at Highmark Stadium, their first defeat of the season. Buffalo fell behind early but rallied in the second quarter, taking a 17–14 halftime lead after touchdowns from James Cook and Josh Allen and a late Tyler Bass field goal. The Bills then appeared to take control when Allen connected with Keon Coleman for a 34-yard touchdown with 4:27 remaining, putting Buffalo ahead 26–21.

The Patriots, however, produced a remarkable final drive. Drake Maye, who threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns, marched New England down the field before finding rookie Efton Chism III for a spectacular 23-yard touchdown catch with just 1:50 left. Rather than settle for a one-point lead, New England went for two, with Maye finding Rhamondre Stevenson to make it 29–26. Buffalo still had a chance, but Maye’s clutch play was matched by the Patriots’ defense when Craig Woodson intercepted Allen near the New England goal line with 1:05 remaining.

For Buffalo, the loss was particularly frustrating because Allen played reasonably well—253 passing yards and two total touchdowns—but the offense managed only 340 yards and struggled to sustain drives late. Coleman was a major bright spot with six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown, while Khalil Shakir added 82 receiving yards. Ultimately, the Bills’ inability to close out the game, combined with the failed two-point attempt after Coleman’s touchdown, left the door open for New England’s comeback. The Patriots’ win moved them to 2–2, while Buffalo dropped to 3–1.
