Eastport-South Manor High School Homecoming a “Big Hit”

Following an 0-2 start, the ESM Sharks took on the Comsewogue Warriors for their Homecoming today and won, assisted in part by 5 sacks, 3 touchdowns, 2 safeties and a parrrrrtridge in a pear treeeee.

The stadium was electrified. Our kids got into their football jerseys and cheerleading outfits and marched in the pregame parade with all the other ESM teams, from K-Sr, and our daughter got to cheer in a massive all age group halftime cheer. It was epic.
Some things of note about ESM Sharks Football:
1. They have a female place kicker, and I think that is awesome. She kicked 3 successful extra points today.
2. Despite his 3 TD’s today, don’t be fooled by Sharks running back Jake Hobbie, because he also FUMBLED 3 times today, one costing a turnover that resulted in a Comsewogue TD drive.
3. The Sharks have a VERY impressive multipurpose player, who had a barrage of calls on the PA system today on offense AND defense. They love this kid so much that when he is announced, he is announced as, “THE Patrick Minogue”.
For example, “That is the fifth sack of the day for ESM #81, THE Patrick Minogue!”
4. Sharks QB Matt Kane is great.
No pressure in the pocket like Tom Brady.
Scrambles like Archie Manning if the pocket DOES collapse.
Throws like Drew Brees.
TD. Boom. How’d that taste?
5. Every player on offense, not just the QB, every player, has a play book wrist band.
It was funny to watch hand signals from the coach to Kane turn into a hand signal from Kane to the offense (no huddle) turn into a synchronized look at the wristbands.
As if the most beautiful girl in the world asked the time, and these guys all wanted to be the first to tell.
Hilarious.
Hell of a game. Here’s the rundown on the box score:

Eastport-South Manor 32, Comsewogue 21:
Jake Hobbie ran for 100 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries and senior defensive end Pat Minogue had a career-high five sacks. Matt Kane completed 13 of 23 passes for 175 yards and a TD. Dan McCormick had three receptions for 80 yards and a score, and Danny Dowsett had six catches for 53 yards and snagged an interception. Minogue also made nine tackles.
“Pat does everything for us,” Sharks coach Bill Ashton said of Minogue, who is 6-1, 175 pounds. “We moved him out there because he’s quick off the ball and he’s got a great motor. He’s also a wide receiver and our punter. You almost never see that. He’s a special talent.”
Justin Pugal made 14 tackles, Nick Garone had 12 stops and Chris Garone had six tackles and a sack.
