Lone Wolf Alert
- Updated: September 22, 2013
Newberg went Lone Wolf on not one, but two games this past weekend. Taking the Panthers over the Giants and the Steelers with the points, Mark repeated his attempt from Week 2 to take multiple games away from the pack. His Week 2 “wolfpack” scored with the Miami Dolphins, being the only one to take the ‘Phins, but then gave it right back up losing with his exclusive pick of the Browns. This week followed that trend as Newberg took the split. The Panthers mauled the Giants, but the Steelers ran out of steam against the Bears, as Mr. Newberg grabbed 10 wins for the third consecutive week.
League veterans know all too well of Newberg’s contrarian football picks. He’s the type of oddball who takes the Cardinals when they start third-string QBs, and the Raiders when they had JaMarcus. Sometimes it pays off, most times not–but when it does, the gloating is as reprehensible as it is excessive. That’s the premium of going Lone Wolf, however you live and die by the sword. It’s a sharp blade when victorious, a dull and rusty one when it doesn’t pan out. Mark is hanging on by a thread, but is on top of the leaderboard thus far, so something must be working. We will all see if he can hold on.
Last year he started out in the same fashion, grabbing and holding the lead up until Week 5, then the shit hit the fan. Hard. We all know what happened after that. Mark spent the the rest of the season dropping and staying in last place to the end of the season, and Holly stayed on top at the same time taking the championship.
