‘Boys Walk-off Win
- Updated: October 18, 2021
The Dallas Cowboys moved to 5-1 on the season in dramatic fashion as Dak Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb for a 35-yard game-winning touchdown in overtime to beat the Patritos, 35-29. The extra period came after a wild final few minutes of regulation where both teams traded scores.
After a missed field goal attempt by kicker Greg Zuerlein, Mac Jones and the Patriots looked to try and ice the game by clinging to a 21-20 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the game. As Jones dropped back to pass on a second-and-15 attempt, he was picked off by Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs, who returned it 42-yards for a touchdown. While that seemed to be a dagger in favor of Dallas, Jones and the Patriots offense came right back on the field and immediately connected with receiver Kendrick Bourne for a 75-yard touchdown. Following a two-point conversion, that gave New England a 29-26 lead with 2:05 remaining.
Prescott was then able to lead the offense down the field for Zuerlein to net a 49-yard field goal and knot the game at 29 apiece.
In overtime, the Patriots received the ball to start but only managed 21 yards on five plays before punting the ball away to the Cowboys, who would drive 80 yards down the field to win the game.
Prescott finished with 445 yards passing, three touchdowns and an interception. Lamb was his No. 1 target on the day as the two linked up for 149 yards and two touchdowns. As for the Patriots, Jones threw for 229 yards, two scores, and an interception.
From here, Dallas will enter its Week 7 bye while the Patriots, who are still searching for a win at Gillette Stadium this season, will host the New York Jets next week.
