Texans On Course
- Updated: December 4, 2023
Another Sunday, another down-to-the-wire decision for the Houston Texans and head coach DeMeco Ryans.
With the Denver Broncos coming to NRG Stadium on Sunday in Houston, the Texans needed a win to stay above .500, and continue to push the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South.
And that was exactly what they did, finding a way to survive the Broncos in yet another nail-biter at 22-17.
C.J. Stroud once again led the way for Houston on Sunday, continuing his tremendous rookie campaign by completing 16 of 27 passes for 274 yards and one touchdown.
Nico Collins was Stroud’s main target in the passing game on Sunday, having a massive outing of his own with nine receptions for 191 yards and the score from Stroud.
Collins’ big day could not have come at a better time for the Texans, who lost star rookie Tank Dell to a devastating lower-body injury in the first half.
Dameon Pierce scored the lone other touchdown on the day for Houston, rushing 15 times for 41 yards.
Meanwhile, defensively, the Texans had arguably one of their best outings of the season, holding the Broncos to just 282 yards, including just 186 yards through the air from quarterback Russell Wilson.
The defense also forced three picks off Wilson – the final of which came from veteran safety Jimmy Ward in the end zone on the Broncos’ final drive, with nine seconds remaining in regulation, sealing the game for Houston.
Following the slugfest with the Broncos, the Texans will now turn their attention toward the East Coast, where they will face the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium next Sunday at noon CT.
