Chiefs Fall To Texans

The Houston Texans forced three Patrick Mahomes interceptions and leaned on a stingy defense to grind out a 20-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Houston scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, taking the lead for good on Dare Ogunbowale’s 5-yard touchdown run after a short-field opportunity created by a Chiefs turnover on downs.
Ka’imi Fairbairn added a late 28-yard field goal to seal it.
C.J. Stroud threw for 203 yards and a touchdown without a turnover, while Nico Collins led all receivers with 121 yards on four catches.
Woody Marks added 76 scrimmage yards and a receiving score as the Texans won the time-of-possession battle and went 8 of 18 on third down.
Mahomes threw for 160 yards but was sacked twice and picked off three times.
Houston improved by capitalizing on Kansas City’s mistakes, the Chiefs finished with three turnovers and just four first-down conversions on third down, as their offense struggled to find rhythm against a swarming Texans defense.
Mahomes, operating behind an ailing offensive line, was just 14 of 33 for 160 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions, the last of them late in the fourth quarter when Kansas City was trailing by a touchdown and trying to get the game to overtime.
While the win gave a big boost to Houston’s playoff chances, whether it be a division title or wild-card spot, it dealt a crippling blow to the defending AFC champs. Kansas City dropped to 6-7, its worst record through 13 games since a 2-11 start to the 2012 season.
The Chiefs had won five straight against the Texans, including a divisional playoff matchup last January on their way to another Super Bowl appearance. But they were two different teams entirely when they returned for the rematch on Sunday night.
