The San Francisco 49ers remained undefeated with a dramatic 32-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 11, at Lumen Field. The divisional showdown was dominated early by turnovers, as San Francisco’s defense repeatedly capitalized on Seattle’s mistakes. Quarterback Brock Purdy connected with Mike Evans for an early touchdown, and Christian McCaffrey added an 11-yard scoring run after a Seahawks fumble. Rookie defensive lineman Gracen Halton delivered one of the game’s biggest plays just before halftime, recovering a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown that gave the 49ers a 21-13 lead. San Francisco’s defense finished with four takeaways and five sacks, putting Seattle under constant pressure.
Seattle fought back in the second half, taking advantage of San Francisco’s offensive struggles and its own opportunities to seize a 26-21 lead entering the fourth quarter. Sam Darnold threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, while kicker Jason Myers made five field goals to keep the Seahawks in contention. Seattle’s defense also came up with three sacks of Purdy, disrupting an offense that had been highly efficient during the 49ers’ unbeaten start. However, costly turnovers continued to haunt the Seahawks, giving San Francisco short fields and helping keep the game within reach despite Seattle’s second-half surge.
Purdy and Evans came through when it mattered most. Trailing late in the game, Purdy led a 74-yard drive that ended with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks, followed by a successful two-point conversion to Evans, putting San Francisco ahead 29-26. After Seattle tied the score with a field goal, Purdy orchestrated another scoring drive, setting up Eddy Piñeiro’s 44-yard field goal with less than two minutes remaining. The Seahawks had one final chance, but Malik Mustapha stopped Cooper Kupp just short of the first-down marker on fourth down, sealing the 49ers’ 32-29 win. The victory improved San Francisco to 5-0, while Seattle fell to 3-2 after a hard-fought game ultimately decided by turnovers and late-game execution.
