Titans Get One

The Tennessee Titans snapped their season-opening losing streak in dramatic fashion on Sunday, October 18, defeating the Indianapolis Colts 26–20 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Tennessee struggled throughout the first half, managing just 64 yards of offense as Indianapolis built a 13–0 lead. Colts quarterback Daniel Jones connected with tight end Mo Alie-Cox for a one-yard touchdown, and kicker Spencer Shrader added two field goals. Titans quarterback Cam Ward also threw an interception, leaving Tennessee with plenty of work to do after the break.

The Titans came out with renewed energy in the second half, sparked by defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who forced and recovered a fumble early in the third quarter. Tennessee’s defense continued to deliver, recording six sacks and forcing three turnovers overall. Kicker Joey Slye connected on field goals from 29 and 56 yards to narrow the deficit before a 58-yard punt return by Chimere Dike set up Ward’s eight-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Carnell Tate, tying the game at 13–13. Tennessee then took its first lead when James Williams blocked an Indianapolis punt and Femi Oladejo returned the loose ball 14 yards for a touchdown, putting the Titans ahead 20–13.

Indianapolis fought back to tie the game at 20–20 when running back Jonathan Taylor scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 5:32 remaining. However, Slye delivered under pressure, drilling a 49-yard field goal with just over two minutes left to put Tennessee ahead 23–20. After the Titans’ defense stopped Jones and the Colts’ offense, Slye added a 44-yard field goal in the final minute to seal the 26–20 victory. Ward finished with 102 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Simmons led the defensive effort. The win marked Tennessee’s first of the season and head coach Robert Saleh’s first victory with the franchise, giving the Titans a much-needed boost after a difficult start.
