Newbs Wins 4th Swami
- Updated: February 8, 2021

In a year that was marked by difficulty during the nation’s ongoing bout with the pandemic, the NFL managed to succeed in giving us fans a complete season and offered us a bit of normalcy and entertainment. In our 14th season of picking games and crowning winners, Mark Newberg emerged to win his 4th title with an unlikely, but usual result; he adding to his title count (4!) and Tom Brady winning a Super Bowl (7!).
They both can claim GOAT status in football: Greatest of All Time.
With duly honorable mentions, Jackie Bernitt lead this season throughout for almost every week and held position with an iron grip. Her pick of #1 Kansas City was the right choice and set her poised to win her first title in just her second season. That’s until the Buccaneers at Pick #5 had to deal with perennial finalist Newberg and perennial World Champion Tom Brady, equipped with a tenacious defense that stymied the explosive Chiefs offense and held them without a touchdown.
Congratulations to the new king, who adds a fourth jewel to his already decorated crown. His previous championships were more decided, in that he had multi-week leads and entered with a team in top positions. This one is special in that it was more unexpected and that he took a gamble on the Buccaneers who he chose 5th and they were in the 7-8th positions in power rankings. Both Newberg and Tampa came on strong in the final two months to upset the mighty favorite.
Great season Jackie B…we expect more great seasons ahead and we are all on notice to a player who has finished Top 4 in only two seasons.
Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a great season despite the year we’ve had. Be safe, Be good, and hope to see you all soon!
