Bass Tops ‘Phins
- Updated: November 4, 2024
Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass nailed a career-long 61-yard field goal with just five seconds remaining to lift his team to a thrilling 30-27 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
The Bills are the darlings of an aggressively unexceptional AFC East, but they got into trouble against the Dolphins, largely due to a standout performance from their multi-purpose running back De’Von Achane. His 4th quarter touchdown is why the Bills were feeling the pressure late in the contest. Tied 20-20 with around six minutes left in the game, QB Josh Allen pulled off an incredible throw as the pocket was literally collapsing on top of him. Quintin Morris reeled it in for a touchdown to give the Bills a 27-20 lead.
But the Dolphins kept the pressure on the Bills. They made it down the field with under two minutes left and tied the game at 27, giving the ball back to the Bills with 98 seconds remaining. Bass, who had missed an extra point earlier in the game, had to face a 61-yard field goal with five seconds left, and he did so with no fear. He made the kick and the ball sailed through the uprights, and the game went final after the Dolphins couldn’t make anything happen in the final five seconds.
